Immediate breast reconstruction is a safe option for women who are undergoing mastectomy. This study suggests that immediate breast reconstruction does not necessarily increase the risk of complications after mastectomy or the ability to detect cancer recurrence.
Having breast reconstruction after mastectomy is a very personal decision and every patient has unique needs. As it is, we recommend that patients should discuss their options with their doctors thoroughly before making decisions.
